Abstract

The interrelation of the Orthodox and Roman-Catholic NT traditions as reflected in Slavonic MSS
The paper presents some results of contrastive study of two sets of Slavonic MS sources of the Gospel of John: (1) the critical edition of the Gospel (1998) based on the early Glagolitic and main bulk of Cyrillic MSS of the 10-16th centuries, and (2) 27 fragments of the Gospel of the 13-15th centuries in the Berčić Collection (St. Petersburg, The Russian National Library) published in 2000. It states, that all the main groups of variation readings typical of the Orthodox Slavonic tradition based on the Greek sources are refl ected in the Glagolitic MSS also. It suggests that it was not until the time of printed editions that the strict opposition of two religious text traditions developed.
