Abstract

An experiment in basic operations of conventional soil tillage system (ploughing and disc harrowing) was done on silty clay soil (low-lying pseudogley) in west Slavonia, the area of Nova Gradiška. The aim of the experiment was to determine the influence of tractor speed on energy requirement and tractor efficiency in ploughing and disc harrowing. Ploughing was carried out at two different speeds and three different depths. Increasing speed from 5.00 to 7.00 km/h resulted in 10.32% higher fuel consumption per hour on average, but also a higher field capacity of 38.89% and lower energy requirement per hectare of 20.57% on average. The highest tractor efficiency of 18.14% was achieved at ploughing depth of 35 cm and speed of 7.00 km/h. In disc harrowing the experiment was carried out with four types of disc harrows at different speed. The highest tractor efficiency of 13.19% was achieved at disc harrow with working width of 550 cm and speed of 10.50 km/h.
