Abstract

In 2007 a new winter wheat variety was released under the name Bc Mira at the Bc Institute d.d. Zagreb. The variety was selected from the cross involving lines Bc 3231/90 x Bc 3629/89. Bc Mira was tested in numerous locations in Croatia in three year period. By average productivity it has a significantly higher yield than the standard varieties Žitarka, Sana and Divana. As regards the duration of the growing season, Bc Mira is in the group of middle early varieties. Its steam height is about 86 cm. It is resistant to low temperatures and lodging. It belongs to quality class I, and quality group B1. Based on biological and technological properties of the new variety, a rapid expansion in regions of wheat growing is to be expected.
