Abstract

A monograph on the urbanity of Zagreb was completed at the time when Zagreb was hit by a strong earthquake. It is dedicated to the squares, parks and streets in the historic nucleus of the city - precisely those public spaces and emblematic buildings that suffered great earthquake damage. So the book was published at the time when it was greatly needed. It is clearly and logically structured according to the spatial entities of the city - Upper Town, Kaptol, Lower Town. Each of this clearly delimited historic zones is supplemented with a ‚catalogue‘ of the thoroughly described and documented public spaces, squares, parks, promenades and selected streets, even the former graveyards transformed into parks. The book contains 35 extensive articles that are interpreted as a chronology
of historical and urban studies although these are actually collected and previously published texts.
