Abstract

Grapevine yellows - Flavescence dorée phytoplasma (FD) is currently the most dangerous grapevine disease in Europe. In Croatia, research on grapevine phytoplasmas has been carried out systematically since 2002 as part of the special surveillance program "Grapevine phytoplasmas and vectors". The first finding of phytoplasma Flavescence dorée in a vineyard was in Vivodina, Karlovac County. Later, it spread to almost all areas of grapevine cultivation in continental Croatia and in Istria. Vector, the American grapevine leafhopper (Scaphoideus titanus) is present in all areas infected with grapevine yellow, but also in areas of grapevine cultivation in which grapevine yellow has not yet been proven. In areas where grapevine yellow is widespread, the population of the American grapevine leafhopper population varies from vineyard to vineyard. This is indicator of performing or not performing mandatory vector control. The Ministry of Agriculture has issued an Order whose main provisions require the removing of infected vines or entire vineyards and performing mandatory control measures against the American grapevine leafhopper.
