Abstract

The investigation was done in order to establish the relations between some motor abilities and results in the infantry polygon of obstacles. With this purpose in mind, 25 classic situational measures of motor abilities were applied on a sample of 59 physical education students, who had served their army term. The participants were measured twice with a long enough recovery interval on a standard polygon with 18 infantry obstacles. Each measurement was taken so as to register the series of time interval needed by each participant to pass each individual obstacles. Each measurement was taken so as to register the series of time intervals needed by each participant to pass each individual obstacle, working in continuo. In this was the results of effects in the first and second measuring of polygon were defined with 18 values each.
The relations between the measures of motor abilities (treated as the predictory system) and the results achieved in all 18 sequences of the polygon (treated as a group of criterion variable) were determined by the quasicanonic analysis of covariances (Momirović and others, 1983).
Since the criterion variables were collected on two occasions, there were two separate quasicanonic analyses accomplished.
In both cases there were two pairs of significant quasicanonic factors, correlated by rather high and similar coefficients.
On the basis of all performed analyses, it may be concluded:
1) In the basis of the first pair of significant quasicanonic factors (in both analyses) lies a significant positive effect of repetitive strength, endurance and co-ordination on a long-lasting exploitation of unconventional motor knowledge,
2) The second pair of significant quasicanonic factors in the first analysis shows primarily the positive effect of the generator of maximum regulated force and greater level of general flexibility on the efficient overcoming of motorically more complex tasks in the first complete performance on the polygon,
3) The second pair of significant quasicanonic factors in the second analysis indicates the importance of integral and regulative mechanisms of higher order which, in motorically complex techniques of overcoming obstacles, co-ordinate the functions of force generator, speed and balance in selected or structured kinetic programs. Furthermore, this pair of factors indicates the importance of leap in realization of different kind of jumps.
