Abstract

In scientific and professional biomedical literature in Croatian, alongside the term “bolest“ (disease) the
word “oboljenje” (sickness) is also used. In this paper we researched the frequency of the use of these two
terms in Internet databases in Croatian. In biomedical publications we researched whether “bolest“ and
“oboljenje” are used as synonyms or if their meanings are differentiated. We verified what the authoritative
textbooks have to say, and posed the question whether biomedical terminology needs both of these terms.
