Abstract

This article focuses on coherence production in written texts – an aspect of (foreign) language acquisition heretofore relatively neglected by research. To further investigate this aspect, the article analyzes coherence production in texts written by students of German as a foreign language at B2 level. The analysis is conducted on a corpus of 30 argumentative texts using qualitative
and quantitative procedures. The results indicate that coherence in texts written by students of German as a foreign language at B2 level is mainly established via parallel progressions, while most of the coherence breaks are found within text paragraphs.
