Abstract

The paper presents the most important information about the Cyrillic manuscript “Ortus
Anime” (1567). In 1967, Milan Ratković reported that it was a literal transcript of “Raj duše”
(1560) by Nikola Dešić. Through the analysis of a corpus composed of biblical readings,
Ratković’s claim is relativized and specified, and some potential directions for future
research are proposed: the relationship with “Raj duše” and “Bernardin’s Lectionary” (1495),
the (in)stability of some graphemes, and the detection of linguistic elements which are
specific for the Dubrovnik area as a part of the process of Shtokavization.
