Abstract

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a chronic disease caused by obstructive lung damage that causes changes in the structure of the lung parenchyma and airways. Structural changes occur due to inflammation and cause airway obstruction. The treatment of systemic inflammation in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is responsible for reducing the incidence, severity of exacerbations and mortality of COPD patients. The aim of this review article is to present COPD as a common disease of the 21st century with high mortality, to define the disease and to present its clinical picture, pathophysiology and etiology, method of diagnosis, treatment and physiotherapeutic rehabilitation.
