EFFECTS OF RETAIL MARKET CONCENTRATION OF CONSUMPTION GOODS IN THE REPUBLIC OF CROATIA

Abstract
Globalization and internationalization in the retail market result in increased market concentration. The process of concentration of the retail market has phases of stronger and weaker intensity. But the trend of increasing concentration has been takes place for almost the last three decades. Retail has today become a highly globalized industry, with strong and rapid dynamics of change but it also has challenges. The paper investigates the correlation between differences in market shares of Croatian retail companies and their business performance. The author starts from the assumption
that differences in market share have a statistically significant impact on differences related to the business result of retail companies in the Republic of Croatia. The research was conducted on the entire Croatian retail market, but the specifics and peculiarities related to Continental and Adriatic Croatia were also analyzed. The results of the research undoubtedly confirm that there is a significant difference related to gross profit per employee between retail business entities divided into five groups, ie grouped according to different market shares. Continental and Adriatic Croatia there are specifics regarding these differences.
