Abstract

The aim of this paper is to determine farmers’ perceptions of the impact of innovation on the development of the agricultural sector and the role of the extension service in the diffusion of innovation. The research was conducted in 2021 using an online questionnaire in a sample of 30 farms from Slavonija. Most of the respondents believe that Croatian farmers are ready to introduce innovations and that the benefits of introducing innovations are higher product quality and lower production costs. When introducing and properly using innovations, farmers emphasize education and information. Extension services are most frequently used in the area of production technology conversion and applying for rural development tenders and agricultural support measures. One third (33.3%) of the respondents consider extension as the main channel for transferring knowledge and information about innovations to farmers, although they agree with the statement that transferring knowledge about innovations to farmers is an integral part of the extensionist’s work (M = 3.67).
