Abstract

The State Archives of Florence and the Pennsylvania University Library preserve two fragments of the family and business letters that Piero di Bernardo Chiarini received from Florence between 1390 and 1400. These correspondences are of relevance to historical and historical linguistic analysis precisely because the Chiarini family, despite their close relations to the city of their origin, lived and worked mainly in Split and were fully integrated into the social network of the Dalmatian city. As a second generation of migrants to Split, the Chiarini family adopted the Dalmatian mindset along with its linguistic peculiarities, of great interest for this paper.
