Abstract

Inital parts of paper are showing Džamanjić’s (1735 – 1820) life and work with special emphasis placed on motives and role models which guided Džamanjić in his translation of Odyssey. Then follows a review of what pedagogy represents in the writing and that is elaborated through the paper, especially through the comparison of Homer’s Greek original and Džamanjić’s Latin translation. This paper includes comparisons of structural factors, such as epithets, but also content ones which reveal, when carefully read from pedagogical aspect, differences between Latin translation and Greek original. In conclusion, it is suggested that there is incompleteness in Džamanjić’s translation of Odyssey that is mostly due to complexity of one of the greatest works of world literature.
