HOST PLANTS AND DISTRIBUTION OF THRIPS TABACI LINDEMAN, 1888 (THYSANOPTERA. THROPIDAE) IN CROATIA

Abstract

The fauna of thrips was investigated (1994 - 1 996) on 111 localities in Croatia (Slavonija, Međimurje, Zagorje, Lika, Istra, Dalmacija) and 48 different species determined. Thrips tabaci was determined in 14% of the 662 samples on 35% of investigated localities. Thrips was found on 29 plant families. The most dominant was a plant from the Asteraceae family (16 species), followed by Fabaceae (10 species), Poaceae and Rosaceae (4 species), 25 famiIies include one or two plant species. T. tabaci was determined on weeds, flowers, trees and on the following cultural crops: wheat, corn, sorghum, sugar beat, aIfa alfa, clover, soybean, sunflower, onion, strawberry, tomato, dill. carrot and pumpkin.
