Abstract

Folk customs are a part of immaterial heritage and are to be considered a part of the culture of a particular people, more exactly of the culture of a region or an area. The Dubašnica folk singers 2014/2015 were basically a part of a specific inherited cultural legacy by which the inhabitants of Dubašnica prove to be heirs to a long tradition of gathering, socializing, joy and spiritual prosperity passed on to them by their parents, grandfathers and ancestors. This hundreds of years old tradition of gathering showed always in the period between the Feast of Saint Stephen and the beginning of the Fasching amusements. Parties of folk singers are formed rarely in Dubašnica, once in a 10-years period, sometimes even longer. We can assume that the stimulus to organize such popular festivals may have been: a good harvest, a longer time of peace and the absence of military confrontations, large epidemics or hardships in a year in which the people could and wanted to have some fun and joy. The Dubašnica folk singers 2014/2015 were, we can now establish it as a fact, a success, the organization was excellent, and the credit goes to all the participants. The women and men of Dubašnica have once again proved that they can do an excellent job organizing themselves and can be and remain united even without the politics or guardians, and that they are able to value their cultural heritage, which they managed to revive very vividly in the holidays from 26 December 2014 to 18 January 2015.
