Abstract

Education can be defined as the unity of a difference; i.e. the difference of the learning and the educating process. This pedagocical difference is fundamental to both: educational practice and the investigation of education. As a consequence the aims of education can never be realised in a mechanistic way. Learning as a whole is not transparent. This is also true of different approaches to define the nature of learning by means of psychological or sociological, biological or neurological research. Therefore it is of paramount importance to educational theory to develop a specific concept of learning based on the didactic interpretation of the aims of education.

Keywords

Pedagogical difference of learning and educating; empirical-analytical research; philosophy of mind; neuroscience; challenge and response in educational contexts
