Abstract
The paper commences with a brief overview of the searching
of origin and principle of all things in Greek philosophy. The
following are then presented: Plato’s thought on the origin of the
cosmos, Aristotle’s perception of time and the eternal nature of
the world, Augustine’s perception of time and the beginning of
the world, the thought of St. Thomas Aquinas on the eternity of
the world and Kant’s antinomy on eternity, that is, the beginning
of the world and Kant’s attempt at resolving these difficulties in
the sphere of transcendental idealism. In the conclusion, a brief
mentioning of the cosmological understanding of the beginning of
the cosmos is provided.
