The Rough Riders: Theodore Roosevelt and the Spanish-American War in 1898

Abstract
This paper deals with Theodore Roosevelt’s actions and with the regiment of The Rough Riders during the Spanish-American War in 1898. At the beginning of this paper, the causes and the motif of the war will be analyzed in order to clarify the circumstances in which the already mentioned regiment arose. The doings of the regiment are demonstrated from its starting conceptual ideas to its final abolition. The importance of the role that the regiment played in the overall campaign will be noted with the detailed overview of the US military operations, in which Roosevelt and the regiment participated, around the city of Santiago in Cuba. Finally, the significance of Roosevelt’s participation in the war over his future political rise.
