Abstract

In 2020, the global market for power and distribution transformers fell from $43.4 billion in 2019 to $39.8 billion as the Covid pandemic peaked, but it rose again to $49.3 billion in 2021 and is forecast to reach $70.4 billion in 2027. The increase in 2021 was partly due to recovery from
the Covid low of 2020 but also because of price rises of materials in the latter half of 2021. The value in 2021 was 24.0 % higher than in 2020, but the volume was only 6.2 %. New methodologies reveal that the global transformer capacity of distributed generation rose at twice the
rate of central generation, 254 % in ten years compared with 128 %.
