Abstract

The paper looks at the changes brought about by modern society, ie. society of postmodernity, which has a large extent in a negative way, affecting the group that in Re Croatia makes up almost a third of the total population - the elderly. By applying contemporary sociological theories (eg Giddens, Castells and Bourdieu) and reviewing contemporary research in the Republic of Croatia, a broader picture of this part of the population is obtained, with an emphasis on social (stereotyping of retirees) and economic situation. This paper seeks to provide an overview of the actual situation of Croatian retirees of the third age and, based on existing research, to determine the inaccuracy of existing myths about aging.

Keywords
