Abstract

The text analyzes the philosophical and symbolic aspects of crying in Juliusz Słowacki’s selected dramas. In terms of the philosophical perspective, the author embraces the views of the German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer, who in his texts (especially The World as Will and Idea and On the Basis of Morality) thoroughly discusses the issue of crying over oneself. Schopenhauer believes that this type of crying allows you to get to know your own character and becomes a tool of learning about the world and the laws that govern it. In turn, the symbolic dimension of the interpretation of the text refers to such issues as: tears, compassion, the weeping willow, the heart of gold or harp.
