Abstract

Authors assume that in the process of creation of the security policy in contemporary states and international institutions, the public opinion influence is becoming more relevant and immediate. Based on that fact the authors present the Slovenian public opinion dealing with chosen security issues, especially the. threats Slovenia might be facing, its NATO membership and the development of the Slovenian army, stressing its role in the society, participation in the peace operations and the way of its recruiting. In this context the authors are pointing at the fact that, according to the public opinion expectations, the key assignment of the Slovenian army is to help in the cases of nature and technical accidents, and then, at the second place, the state defense. This reflects drama.tic changes of the real and perceptive treats to Slovenia in the last decade.
