Abstract

Simple, linear density function was implemented in the planar terrain correction (tc) approximation. The methods of exact numerical integration and Fast Fourier Transform for the tc quadratic approximation were redefined to include, besides height and surface density digital models, the subsurface horizon's depth and density digital models as well, in our case the horizon being PT base of the sediments. In accordance to this, the terrain correction was computed for various fineness of the digital models in the chosen area of the Republic of Croatia. The redefined methods were compared with numerical integration and FFT methods in which only surface variable density model was utilized. The relationship of the redefined spatial and spectral domain methods was investigated, as well as their sensitivity to the chosen density model. Superior time efficiency of the FFT was confirmed. It was shown that the terrain correction with proposed spatial density model can be used in practice in solving physical geodesy problems.
