Abstract

Seven various mathematical derivations for the curvature radius of meridian ellipse are presented. None of them requests some special knowledge in mathematics, and hence one could say, that they are all on an equal footing. However, their length is the element that makes them distinguish from each essentially. The oldest, but also the shortest and the nicest among them is Helmert's derivation from 1880 by which it is possible to reach the aim directly.
