Abstract
The paper deals with the computation of the length of a meridian are by using trigonometric series. The coefficients of these series are also usually represented as series. It is stressed that it is more convenient to represent these coefficients by the parameter n instead by the customary e or e'. Several forms of trigonometric series have been investigated with the purpose of reducing the amount of the needed calculations. The dependence of the meridional distance calculation accuracy on the accuracy with which the geodetic latitude is known has been taken into consideration, as well as the effect of neglecting some terms of the series. From this research a new form of the formula for the calculation of the length of a meridian are has been derived.
