Abstract

Even though electric shocks do not represent such common cases of accidents and deaths, they do occur and, as such, are the subject of the combined expertise of a technical expert and an expert in forensic medicine.
By inspecting and testing electrical installations and devices in a building or a plant facility, technical experts cooperating with the crime scene investigation team determine the cause of accidents. Experts also examine electrical devices and cables, which are, upon the crime scene investigation by crime scene investigation teams, submitted to Forensic Science Centre Ivan Vučetić for expert examination on suspicion that they could have led to an electric shock due to a malfunction.
Inspection of the scene of accidents caused by an electric shock requires, in addition to the police officers of the crime scene investigation team and the expert witnesses, the presence of persons involved in the scene of an accident, namely state attorneys, work inspectors and others. Therefore, the paper lists measures to be taken before and during the crime scene investigation in order to provide for the protection and safety of all mentioned personnel.
Several real cases from the experts' field of work are described, and traces of accidents caused by electric shock are shown. The analysis of the presented cases was carried out, and the possible causes leading to the accidents were stated.
