Abstract

Countries apply different reserve requirement regimes to their banks, depending on the conditions in the certain economy and the motives they want to achieve. From its initial role as an instrument of deposit insurance in banks, the reserve requirement framework has evolved into a much more complex instrument of monetary regulation in recent times. The subject of this paper is the analysis of the possibilities that exist within the reserve requirement policy, as well as the motives which are intended to be achieved by its use. In addition to the theoretical analysis of the possibilities that exist within the required reserve policy, the paper will also practically analyze the required reserve regimes that exist in specific countries, with special reference to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Keywords
