Abstract
This paper analyzes the conceptual difficulties of comparative pedagogy and comparative andragogy that complicate the search for a scientific identity. The point of contention is the non-existence of their own research methods imposed by the experts from other fields, and the identification with international research. Comparative pedagogy and comparative andragogy are separate scientific disciplines that have their own subject of study. Since their subject is comparison, both disciplines, and especially comparative pedagogy, have recently delved into the research direction of measuring the »other«, which is related to the general climate of intense economic competition and the growing belief in the key role of education. Nonetheless, both academic disciplines provided relevant insights into formal and non-formal forms of education whilst pointing to discriminatory practices in the education of children, adolescents, and adults, as well as non-traditional students.
