Abstract

The transition to modes of production and consumption that respect ecological limits is increasingly important. To help meet the goals of the Paris Agreement, the EU is adopting strategies for the transition to a sustainable and circular bioeconomy, including the 2018 Bioeconomy Strategy. The Strategy has five goals, and monitoring of their achievement is publicly available through the Bioeconomy Knowledge Center website. Data for 42 indicators are currently available. In addition, 125 new indicators have been defined for which data will be available in the future. The aim of the paper is to identify the achievement of the 2018 Bioeconomy Strategy goals, with reference to four countries. One indicator was selected for each of the five objectives of the EU Bioeconomy Strategy. Progress has been made on all selected indicators at the EU-27 level.
