CORRELATION BETWEEN SOME ECONOMICALLY IMPORTANT PLANT CHARACTERISTICS OF BUSH BEAN (Phaseolus vulgaris L.)

Abstract
Knowing the correlation between some economically important characteristics of bush bean can be a significant aid for improving production, especially for determination of the optimal term of harvesting.
On the basis of data obtained in variety trials during the period 2001 – 2005 for the bush bean variety Grenoble for plant height, number of pods per plant, number of technologically ripe pods per plant, yield per plant such as length and width of pods, individual correlations were calculated.
Between plant height and number of pods, number of technologically ripe pods per plant and yield per plant determined correlation was positive and of middle intensity.
Correlation between number of pods per plant and number of technologically ripe pods per plant was strong and positive for all years of research. Higher number of pods per plant and a higher number technologically ripe pods per plant resulted by higher yield. Correlation between length and width of pods with yield per plant was weak and negative. Correlation coefficients between number of pods per plant and pod length were low and of different direction depending on year and between number of pods per plant and pod width were low and of negative direction.
The yield was higher when the number of technologically ripe pods per plant and their percentage in total number of pods per plant was higher. Pod length and width were without influence on the yield.
