Abstract

Agritourism as a term occurred in the early 20th century. The main reason for introducing agritourism was to obtain better income and better living standards for the rural population. The aim of this paper is to assess the sustainable agritourism offer in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and thus provide guidelines for improving the competitiveness of this type of tourism in BiH. To reach this aim, this two-step study was conducted. The first step was to assess the current situation, and the second step was to provide guidelines for the development of this type of tourism in BiH. The assessment of the current state of agritourism was made using the DEX (Decision EXpert) method and expert decision-making using a decision-making model with sustainability criteria. A random sample of 6 facilities in BiH was selected, evaluated by experts who gave the current state of agritourism in these facilities. The obtained results have shown that each object has its advantages and disadvantages. The greatest disadvantage in all facilities is the (non)application of environmental standards, while the advantages are in the form of cultural and natural resources. Each facility must remedy the disadvantages and use its best characteristics to build market competitiveness.
