Abstract

The use of solar systems in agriculture can reduce energy costs, as well as greenhouse gas emissions. This has been recognized by the European Union, which supports the implementation of renewable energy sources through the grants from the Common Agricultural Policy. The paper analyzed, using the method of case study, an agricultural holding that invested in a small-capacity solar power plant for enabling energy savings, for which they used its own money and grants from the European Union. In addition to the savings achieved by not buying energy on the market, during the summer months this agricultural holding also realizes surplus energy they could sell, and the average annual income of the farm from the solar power plant amounts to EUR 11,872.93. The return on investment is expected in the 11th year of the project, and throughout the duration of the project, the efficiency is significantly above 1, which shows the justification of this investment, which enables the farm to meet its energy needs.
