Intellectual capital in agrarian entrepreneurship – determinants and measurement

Abstract
A large number of small businesses in agriculture development, as the primary economic branch, is related to the implementation of entrepreneurship. Agrarian entrepreneurship, in practical terms, contributes to technological and technical modernization, self-employment and employment in rural areas, economic strengthening and competitiveness in general. The basis of these processes is the knowledge, abilities and skills of entrepreneurs used in business organization to create new innovated values. These are the intangible values associated with human, structural and consumer capital that make up the intellectual capital of a business. The aim of this paper is to identify the basic determinants of the intellectual capital on farm and the method of measurement. Each farm contains its own and unique intangible assets. Their existence affects the success of production and business. In that way it represents the original in a large number of similar farms. The agricultural market is extremely large and active due to the importance of food production and basic foodstuffs. Agrarian entrepreneurs are under pressure from competitors and market demand. In such conditions, it is extremely important to adopt new knowledge and innovations as well as the speed of their transfer to business. Intangible value has strong influences to other resources that create a new values and more efficient business. Furthermore, the newly created values are the result of the human potential – human capital, which affects innovation in business processes – structural capital, and synergistically creating better quality services for consumers, which increases customer loyalty – consumer capital. The intellectual capital measuring concept presented in this paper follows the determinants through the different farm conditions. Each determinants of intellectual capital are included in the measurement process, that allows the evaluation of individual or entire farm business. In this way, it is possible to
conduct a comparative analysis and ranking according to the determinants or as intellectual capital value of overall farm business.
