Abstract

In this thesis different parameters that influence the formation of nitric oxides in furnaces are taken into consideration using numerical and experimental methods. For the numerical analysis a mathematical model of physical and chemical phenomena related to the combustion of liquid fuel in steam generators is applied. The mathematical model includes models of turbulent fluid flow, heat and mass transfer, combustion and nitric oxides formation. The numerical analysis was performed using the software package FLUENT that is based on the finite volume method. This work takes into consideration the influence of working parameters of a steam generator (excess air, combustion air temperature, load and flue gases temperature) and the quality of fuel oil on the formation of nitric oxides. The results obtained by numerical analysis are in good accordance with results obtained by experimental measurements performed on the steam generator in real working conditions. Based on the results, conclusions on the influence of various parameters on the emissions of nitric oxides from the furnace are defined, as well as possible technical measures for reducing emissions of nitric oxides from steam generators.
