Abstract

On the basis of modern interpretative concepts and schemes the author considers the background of stories rendered by a Split chronicler from the 13th century, Thomas Archdeacon. From the description of the “images”’ of the wider social scene, the author focuses on the “image” of the king and his rule. Breaking down this “image”, the author points to various elements of which it consists, trying in his conclusion
to discern to which extent Thomas’s narration reflects realities of the time in which the chronicler lived and worked.
