Abstract

France’s primary electricity generation utility, Électricité de France (EDF), chose its Hydro power plant division for implementing a large-scale digital monitoring project in 2012. Currently, 630 turbines have been monitored, totaling 18.7 GW of installed power. This strategic initiative targets enhancing plant performance, safety, maintenance and availability with the expectation of a Return On Investment within 3 to 6 years. This article presents related data and a case study with the diagnosis of a power transformer based on monitoring in the field of Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) and Partial Discharge (PD).
