Abstract
The paper examines the contributions of Dubravko Jelčić to the theatre studies conferences The Hvar Theatre Days and Krleža’s Days in Osijek organized by the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts. It observes how Jelčić, as a literary historian, contributed to Croatian theatre studies and the two conferences, what topics he dealt with and what methodology he used. Dubravko Jelčić took part in The Hvar Theatre only once (1979), but he participated five times in the Krleža’s Days in Osijek, starting with the very first conference, and continued to participate at regular intervals during the next twenty years. As a participant of theatre studies conferences organized by the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, he mostly chose topics related to drama literature, verifying his position of a literary historian, but occasionally he also ventured into the field of theater criticism and dramatization. Furthermore, his presentations and papers published in the conference proceedings since the 1990s, often included an overview of contemporary social issues, usually critical about the relationship of ideology and politics towards literature and theatre.
