Abstract
Purpose. To get an insight into the representation of the Campaign in the libraries of Karlovac County, in order to contribute to improving the quality of life of people with disabilities and people with special needs in Karlovac County.
Approach. In the first part of the paper, the findings related to the implementation of the National campaign "I want to read, too!" are presented as well as inclusive library programs. In the second part of the paper, the research was conducted using a survey questionnaire in electronic form. The library network of Karlovac County, which consists of 51 libraries, was analyzed. Quantitative analysis of the questionnaire revealed the number of libraries participating in the National Campaign "I want to read!" and target groups and types of users.
Findings. After analyzing the survey, it is evident that the majority of libraries in Karlovac County are familiar with the Campaign and implement it within their capabilities. The analysis of the survey reveals the problem of spatial planning of libraries and the adaptation of programs for target groups of users.
Research limitations. Since the response to the survey was only 60 percent of the total number of libraries in Karlovac County, it cannot be generalized, but it can be concluded that the majority of libraries in Karlovac County are aware of and participate in the Campaign.
Practical implications. The research is aimed at librarians and other experts in the area of Karlovac County who follow the National Campaign "I want to read!" as a guideline for organizing future inclusive activities. The aspiration is to increase the number of events in the surveyed libraries and to introduce cooperation and offer programs for those libraries that have not been included in the Campaign so far.
Originality. Given that the measurability of the "I want to read" campaign has not yet been surveyed in Karlovac County, this paper provides valuable and original insights into the implementation of the Campaign and guidelines on how to improve the quality of services. The obtained results will encourage the libraries to participate in the Campaign as efficiently as possible so that the users are happy to stay in the library area and have the opportunity to access materials that are easy to read.
