Abstract
Due to the hyperdynamic environment characterized by new technologies, changes in consumer preferences and intense competition, organizational knowledge has become an extremely important resource. Innovation and systematic knowledge management are prerequisites for the survival
and development of enterprises. Knowledge management is understood as the systematic use of a company’s intellectual capital in order to achieve synergistic effects. In addition, the organizational performance and perspective of the enterprise significantly depend on the style and personality of the leader, that is, on the compatibility of the leader’s behavior with the needs of employees and the enterprise. The management’s decision to create, apply and exchange acquired competencies in the enterprise is a fundamental prerequisite for building a learning organization. This concept implies continuous learning, improvement, adaptation and introduction of changes. The aim of the paper
is to determine whether there is a correlation between knowledge management and leadership style with the development of small, medium and large Croatian enterprises. In the 120 legal entities included in the empirical research, transformational and transactional leadership styles prevail, which are particularly stimulating for learning and development. The results prove a positive connection between leadership style and knowledge management with company development, which means
a process aimed at growing business volume and improving company performance. This paper contributes to a better understanding of the relationship between leadership style and development, that is, the importance of the leader’s role in exploratory and two-way learning.
