Abstract
The study publishes and analyses the full text of the last will of Luke of Szeged, bishop of Zagreb (1500-1510), of which only a few provisions were known until now. The bishop's testament, dated 12 March 1510, was preserved in an unauthenticated copy from the same period in the archives of the Batthyány family in Körmend, and was placed into the Central Archives of the Hungarian National Archives in 2021. Of the Bishop's 25,000 forints in cash, the last will left 2,000 forints to King Wladyslaw II and 3,000 forints to Luke's niece, Catherine, the fiancée of Balthasar Batthyány. He gave most of his money to ecclesiastical persons and various ecclesiastical bodies, and provided support for the Dominican, Pauline and Observant Franciscan orders. For the salvation of his own soul, he made donations for more than 2,500 masses. The study reviews the earlier literature, provides new information about the bishop's family, based on the additional documents of the Batthyány Archives, Finally, it outlines the major content units of the testament and points out the potential of the document for historical and art historical research.
