The Role of the LAG Šumanovci in the Development of Local Community through Rural Tourism

Abstract

Rural tourism is increasingly becoming a key segment of sustainable development in the tourism industry, emphasizing a necessity to preserve natural and cultural heritage and provide economic opportunities to local communities. The LAGs, such as the Šumanovci LAG, are recognized as the key actors to encourage the development of rural tourism, but they face challenges such as a lack of financial resources and insufficient cooperation among stakeholders. The research focuses on the LAG Šumanovci, analyzing the challenges and awareness of the population about their activities. A survey research provides an insight into the sociodemographic characteristics, challenges, and perceptions of rural tourism. The results indicate a necessity to strengthen awareness of the LAGs and optimize rural tourism-promotion strategies in the area of Šumanovci.
