The Return of Former Catholics from the Serbian Orthodox Church to the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Bosnia or Đakovo and Srijem from 1941 to 1945

Abstract
Based on archival material in the Diocese of Bosnia or Đakovo and Srijem (Archdiocese of Đakovo-Osijek), we investigated petitions for the return of former Catholics to the Catholic Church. Out of 455 petitions, the Ordinariate in Đakovo approved the return of 433 people. Former Catholics – reverts – transitioned to the Serbian Orthodox Church because of mixed marriages, because of divorce and the possibility of entering into a new church marriage, as well as because of state pressure on Catholic teachers, civil officials, military personnel, doctors and lawyers.
