Abstract

In order to investigate the four particle clustering tendency in a particle nuclei, an effective four-body potential taken in the form of a generalised Gaussian was added to the conventional two-body potential. The strength of this four-body potential was fitted to the binding energy of Helium 4, and its contribution to the binding of Beryllium 8 shown to be of the order of S MeV or some two per cent of the total potential energy.
