Abstract

Following a short review of the appearance of the torch and its practical application in the dark refuges of the first perceivable human beings, there are also surveys on grates and various types of oil-lamps (uljanica and lukijerna), which are displayed in the pictures. The author then mentions the subsequent semblance of the petrol-lamp, which up until the invention of the electric bulb was installed in every household, not only in Yugoslavia, yet throughout the world in general. Simultaneously, particular reference is made to the importance of petrol, as a raw material used as the notive force of forthcoming powerful generators and sources of light. The whole of the precursive material is infact only the introduction as far as electrification on the island of Krk is concerned, work being started on it as early as 1925, in Omišalj. In successive years, the places which received their own local power station were actuated separately. The acknowledgement in respect of the prominent swing resulting in the intensification of post-war electrification can be apportioned to the self-sacrifice and financial contribution made by the inhabitants, and also to the cordial help given by the emigrants from the island of Krk. By means of their material help an underwater cable has been purchased, this representing the first step in connecting the island with the mainland. The laying of this cable, and in addition the building of long-distance transmission and generators, has realised the long-standing and natural desires of the islanders, but experience, as also the sudden increase in the consumption of electrical energy, demands new investments and more perspective undertakings giving the assurance of adequate and quality electric energy, which will also be materialised during the next few years.
