Abstract
This paper analyses the textual and lexical levels of the Bosnian apostles: Giljferding’s Apostle no. 14, Hval’s Codex, and the Marcianum Codex. The rich comparative material, which includes the oldest preserved Slavic apostles and apostle texts in the Croatian Glagolitic missals, paints a clearer picture of the lexical composition of the text transmitted in Mediaeval Bosnia. Based on comparative analysis, it is concluded that the Bosnian apostles well preserve the lexicon of the oldest translation, but that the influence of the Preslav recension is evident in them as it is in the oldest Slavic apostles; this is consistent with the results of research confirming that the Preslav recension is the most widespread in South Slavic manuscripts. As concerns the relationship among the texts of the Bosnian apostles, a high percentage of concordance among their texts was found, while divergences are the result of the different templates on which they are based. A detailed comparison shows that the stronger influence of the Macedonian template is apparent in Hval’s Codex as compared to Giljferding’s Apostle no. 14 and the Marcianum Codex.
