Abstract

The role of retail business is becoming increasingly more important in the modern economy of the Republic of Croatia. The paper provides an analysis of the state and trends of concentration, consolidation and internationalization in retail business in the Republic of Croatia. Additionally, the main challenges that retail companies face are presented, with an emphasis on digitization and modernization of their operations. The focus and preferences of consumers are continuously changing and becoming more focused on electronic commerce and the digitization of existing operations, which means that only those retail chains that can promptly adapt their business strategies and tactics to these trends can remain competitive.
