Abstract

This paper is part of a larger project and provides a brief overview of the beginnings of pedagogical research and publishing in Croatia, without providing a detailed analysis of the subject matter. Initially publications were in the form of articles in different magazines, reviews and essays about the educational system, educators and related events. At first only short articles were being published until more extensive (though not comprehensive) historical overviews, monographs and historic books appeared on the subject of events and activities in the educational system. Though many are lacking detailed analysis and critical synthesis, all methodological requirements could not be met, as this was the time of the birth of pedagogy as a scientific discipline. From today’s perspective there are many ways in which such sources can be criticized, but scientifically they are very useful as they are indicative of the emergence of pedagogical influences in the development of Croatian educational science from the “accidental” beginnings until the first two decades of the 20th century. From that point of view, this paper reminds of the beginnings of the Croatian history of pedagogy (and a new education system).
