Abstract

Filip de Diversis, a most learned Italian humanist coming from Lucce, worked as a teacher and a principal of the grammar-rhetorical school in Dubrovnik from 1424 to 1441. He came to Dubrovnik from Venice where he also worked as a teacher. It was his stay in Dubrovnik that made him famous. There he wrote a literary work about Dubrovnik in Latin. In it he described its position, constitutional organization, buildings, population and customs. De Diversis iniciated the reorganization of the Dubrovnik grammar-rhetorical school by a special act introduced by the Great Council of Aristocracy, the highest authority in the state of Dubrovnik. Leaving Dubrovnik he returned to Venice where he continued working as a teacher.
