Abstract

In worldwide practice there are several ways of earthing the neutral point of medium voltage networks that are used. Each method has certain advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, each decision for the method of earthing is made individually for each substation, concerning the specificity of the network connected to the substation. Neutral point treatment influences the reliability of the supply to the customers, which gains in importance under circumstances of the free electricity market. Besides the technical approach, the economic approach is also important, since individual solutions can vary significantly. This paper describes features of the solutions that are mostly used. An example of a real network is also modeled. Afterwards, measurements were conducted on the same network, and results of the estimations were compared by modeling and real measurements.
